Kayaking

Whether you have had experience kayaking or are a novice, there are many places to drop into the water around here. Watch for the brown boat launch signs to guide your way and then preview the area to see if it is within your comfort zone in terms of water conditions and weather. One of our favorite places is Mats Mats Bay. It is a sheltered bay south of Port Hadlock on Oak Bay Rd. You can drop in at the dock on the south end of the bay and paddle out to where Mats Mats meets the more open water. On our last trip there we could see Mt. Ranier in the distance. A harbor seal followed us for a distance as we paddled about. Watch the tide charts when planning a kayaking adventure.

For this trip we chose to paddle against the incoming tide on our way out of Mats Mats Bay and then let the tide assist us as we paddled back to the dock at the end of our journey.
Other areas that we have explored include Mystery Bay and the spit on Marrowstone Island, from John Wayne Marina to the northern end of Sequim Bay, and Port Hadlock. Enjoy!
